Programul de presentări și discuții care acompaniază expoziția Forme în timp – viitorul nostalgiei continuă avându-l invitat pe Jörg-Uwe Neumann, Directorul Rostocker Kunsthalle, care va oferi o privire asupra bogăției istorii culturale a instituției și asupra rolului viitor pe care aceasta și-l asumă.

Kunsthalle Rostock este un exemplu excelent pentru felul în care o instituție culturală poate să-și definească funcția și perspectivele în viitor prin asumarea propriei sale istorii petrecute în timpul perioadei comuniste și prin dezvoltarea unei strategii privind colecția și programul sau de expoziții pornind de la o atare reflecție istorică cu caracter critic. Kunsthalle Rostock a fost singura clădire nouă destinată unui muzeu de artă contemporană care s-a construit în fosta Republică Democrată Germană. Fondată în 1964 și deschisă publicului în 1969, a fost concepută ca pavilion al Bienalei Baltice și ca o replică la „dezvoltarea artistică revanșistă a imperialiștilor vest-germani”. Bienala Baltică a avut loc la Rostock între 1969 și 1989 și a expus artă contemporană din țările baltice, inclusiv din Islanda și Norvegia. A fost una dintre foarte puținele expoziții periodice în fosta Republică Democrată Germană din perioada Razboiului Rece care a expus, relativ necenzurat, artă contemporană din ambele părți ale Cortinei de Fier.

Preluând această moștenire culturală, Dr. Jörg-Uwe Neumann definește azi rolul prezent și viitor al Kunsthalle Rostock, cu scopul de a-i restaura statutul de punct de intersecție al ideilor și conceptelor artistice schimbate între Estul și Vestul Europei.

Prezentarea va fi moderată de Office for Art – Nathalie Hoyos și Rainald Schumacher, curatori și organizatori de expoziții stabiliți în Berlin, consultanți pentru colecții private și corporatiste de artă. Din 2010, Office for Art este consultant al Colecției de Artă Telekom și a curatoriat expoziția Fragile Sense of Hope (me Collectors Room Berlin, 2014).

The program of talks accompanying the exhibition Shape of Time – Future of Nostalgia continues inviting Dr. Jörg-Uwe Neumann, Director of the Kunsthalle Rostock, to offer an insight into the rich cultural history of this institution and to present the future development of its role.

The Kunsthalle Rostock is an excellent example of how a cultural institution can define its function and future perspective by being aware of its past history during the communist time and by developing an exhibition and collection strategy that gains its strength and coherence through such a critical historical reflection. The Kunsthalle Rostock was the only new museum building for contemporary art build in the former German Democratic Republic. Founded in 1964 and opened to the public in 1969, it was planned as a pavillon for the Baltic Biennale and as a counterpart to the „revanchistic artistic development of the West German imperialists“. The Baltic Biennale took place in Rostock from 1969 until 1989 and showed contemporary art from countries surrounding the Baltic Sea, including Island and Norway. It was one of the very few regulary exhibitions in the German Democratic Republic during the time of the Cold War, which showed rather uncensored contemporary art from both sides of the Iron Curtain.

Coming from such a cultural legacy, Director Jörg-Uwe Neumann is shaping and defining the current and future role of the Kunsthalle Rostock with the aim of reestablishing it as a crosspoint for an exchange of ideas and artistic concepts between the Eastern and Western Europe.

The talk will be moderated by Office for Art – Nathalie Hoyos and Rainald Schumacher, a Berlin based office that curates and realizes exhibitions and consults private and corporate art collections. Since 2010, Office for Art has been advising the Art Collection Telekom and curated the exhibitions Fragile Sense of Hope (me Collectors Room, Berlin, 2014).
