Online: ateliere despre artiști români contemporani ce au beneficiat de inovațiile aduse în exprimarea artistică de către exponenții curentelor artei moderne

/RO: În această perioadă atelierele pentru cei mici au loc doar în mediul online, într-o formulă interactivă. „20 de artiști contemporani din colecția MNAC” este nouă serie de ateliere despre artiști români contemporani ce au beneficiat de inovațiile aduse în exprimarea artistică de către exponenții curentelor artei moderne. Totodată, la fel ca în ampla expoziție „Văzând Istoria. 1947-2007”, ne propunem educarea publicului tânăr față de istoria recentă a României, pe care o putem cunoaște și prin prisma mărturiilor vizuale înscrise în opera artiștilor ce au trăit acele vremuri.

// CUM POȚI PARTICIPA
Potrivit pentru: familii cu copii peste 5 ani și, totodată, pentru adulți, în limita a 20 de locuri disponibile. Sesiunile sunt incluzive, toți copiii și adulții cu dizabilități sunt bineveniți.

Acces: Înscrierea la atelier se face la adresa educatie@mnac.ro. Aceasta va trebui să cuprindă numele celor mici, vârsta, atelierul, și un printscreen cu biletul de participare.

Continuăm seria celor „20 de artiști contemporani din colecția MNAC” cu un artist cunoscut și apreciat atât la noi cât și în celelalte țări din fostul bloc comunist european.

Numit Maestru Emerit al Artelor în 1958 și Artistul Poporului în 1962, călătorind cu o mulțime de expoziții în străinătate și premiat frecvent pentru pictura sa, Artistul Corneliu Baba este un pictor al omului, așa cum scria despre el profesorul Tudor Vianu, care adăuga că „Pictorul omului este un portretist”. Într-adevăr prezența omului e nelipsită în tablourile sale, iar compozițiile de mari dimensiuni înfățișează omul social ca grup de țărani sau muncitori la muncă sau în momentele de odihnă.

Născut la 18 noiembrie 1906 la Craiova, artistul copilărește în atelierul de pictură al tatălui său, dovedind de la vârstă foarte mică (4 ani neîmpliniți) un uluitor talent la desen și simț al culorii. Așa că la împlinirea a 6 ani primește un șevalet la care se instalează ca pictor. În liceu la Caransebeș, devine portretistul orașului, apoi intră fără probleme la facultatea de Belle Arte din București, pe care o abandonează după primul an de frecvență. Cu ajutorul pictorului Nicolae Tonitza însă, reușește să se înscrie la studii superioare de pictură la Iași, unde rămâne asistent al departamentului de pictură și apoi profesor.

Puțini sunt cei care cunosc faptul că în urma expoziției de debut la Salonul de Artă din București din 1948, Corneliu Baba a fost arestat pentru scurtă vreme la închisoarea Galata din Iași, din pricina unei picturi ce înfățișa un jucător de șah aplecat asupra tablei pe care rămăseseră 7 piese, cu un cal negru amenințând un pion alb. În următorul an îi va fi retras postul de profesor universitar și va fi mutat la București.

Deși relația cu autoritățile comuniste nu a fost una ușoară la început, în primii ani ai noului regim artistul a pictat în stilul realismului socialist câteva compoziții cu oțelari și țărani, însă personalitatea sa artistică era prea complexă pentru rămâne prea mult timp în această manieră simplificatoare. Refugiat în spațiul clasicității, apelând la marea tradiție a picturii, pictează obsesiv țărani și scene de la răscoala din 1907.
Urmează seriile Arlechinilor și cea a Regelui nebun, ocazii în care artistul dovedește preocupare profundă atât pentru problematica picturală cât și cea morală.

/EN: During this time our activities for kids take place only online, in an interactive formula. “20 Contemporary Artists from the MNAC Collection” is a new series that focuses on contemporary Romanian artists who benefited from the innovations brought in artistic expression by the exponents of modern art. At the same time, as in the ample exhibition “Seeing History. 1947-2007”, we aim to educate the young public on the recent history of Romania, which we can also get to know through the prism of the visual testimonies inscribed in the oeuvre of the artists who lived those times.

// REGISTRATION
Suitable for: families with children aged 5 and up and adults, within the limit of 20 available places. The workshops are inclusive, all children with disabilities are welcome, regardless of their artistic abilities.

We continue the series „20 Contemporary Artists from the MNAC Collection” with a well-known and appreciated artist both in our country and in the other countries of the former European Communist Block.

Named Emeritus Master of Arts in 1958 and People’s Artist in 1962, travelling abroad with a lot of exhibitions and frequently awarded for his painting, Corneliu Baba is a painter of man, as Professor Tudor Vianu wrote, adding that „The painter of man is a portraitist”. Indeed, the presence of man is not absent in his paintings, and his large-scale compositions depict the social being as a group of peasants or workers at labour or at rest.

Born on November 18, 1906, in Craiova, the artist grew up in his father’s painting studio, proving from a very young age (just before turning 4) an astonishing talent for drawing and a sense of colour. Thus, on his 6th birthday, he received an easel on which he settled as a painter. At high school in Caransebeș, he became the town’s portraitist, then he entered the Fine Arts University in Bucharest, which he abandoned after the first year. However, with the help of the painter Nicolae Tonitza, he manages to enrol in higher studies in painting in Iași, where he remains Assistant to the Painting Department and then Professor.

Few people know that after his debut exhibition at the Bucharest Art Salon in 1948, Corneliu Baba was briefly arrested in the Galata prison in Iași, because of a painting depicting a chess player bent over a chessboard on which 7 pieces remained, with a black knight threatening a white pawn. The following year he was removed from his position as a university professor and moved to Bucharest.

Although the relationship with the communist authorities was not easy at first, in the early years of the new regime the artist painted several compositions of steelworkers and peasants in the style of socialist realism, but his artistic personality was too complex to stay in this simplistic manner for too long. Taking refuge in the space of classicism, and drawing from the great tradition of painting, he obsessively depicted peasants and scenes from the 1907 uprising. The Harlequins and the Mad King series follow, instances in which the artist shows a deep concern for both pictorial and moral issues.
