August Roland von Spiess (1864–1953) a fost un talentat publicist. Descrierile sale sunt nu numai plastice şi amănunţite, dar induce cititorului sentimentul participării la experienţele trăite de narator. A făcut parte, fiind autorul capitolelor dedicate ursului şi râsului, din prestigiosul colectiv de specialişti care a elaborat monumentalul tratat de vânătoare „Die Hohe Jagd”, apărut la Berlin în anul 1922. Prima sa monografie intitulată „Gurghiu : Gorgeny St. Imbre” a apărut în limba germană în anul 1929 la Sibiu. Spiess expune într-un limbaj elevat peripeţiile luptelor ce se desfăşurau acolo pentru vânarea zimbrului, cum Principele Rudolf organiza celebrele sale vânători de urşi, cum contele Samuel Teleky a vânat primul sau cerb, sau regele Ferdinand a dobândit ultimul sau cerb, despre felul în care vânau cele mai distinse personalităţi ale vremii şi invitaţii lor. A doua monografie scrisă de colonelul Spiess apare în 1933 şi se intitulează „Die Wildkammern des Retezatmassif” (Caprele Negre din Masivul Retezat). Tot în 1933 vede lumina tiparului lucrarea ce va deveni un roman clasic de vânătoare „Im Zauber den Karpathen” (În farmecul Carpaţilor). Majoritatea cărţilor conţin povestiri vânătoreşti a căror acţiuni se petrece în Carpaţii transilvăneni şi au avut multe reeditări în edituri din Germania şi România. Singura carte publicată de Spiess în limba română a fost ”Din Ardeal la Kilimandjaro. Vânători în Africa”, apărută în 1942, în semn de respect faţă de Casa Regală a României care l-a susţinut în timpul expediţiilor. Toate aceste lucrări cuprind povești vânătorești pline de farmecul specific, descriind cadrul natural din trecut al vechiului domeniu de vânătoare regal al României. Expoziția va cuprinde obiecte de patrimoniu care au aparținut lui A. von Spiess ”protagonistele” poveștilor vânătorești relatate cu măiestrie și pasiune de către Spiess.

August Roland von Spiess (1864–1953) was a talented publicist. His descriptions are not only plastic and detailed, but induced the reader to participate in the experiences lived by the narrator. He was the author of the chapters dedicated to the bear and the linx, of the prestigious group of specialists who elaborated the monumental hunting treaty „Die Hohe Jagd”, published in Berlin in 1922. His first monograph entitled „Gurghiu: Gorgeny St. Imbre” appeared in German in 1929 in Sibiu. Von Spiess describes the adventures and battles carried when hunting the bison, how Prince Rudolf organized his famous bear hunters, how Count Samuel Teleky hunted his first deer, or King Ferdinand shot his last deer, and many other distinguished personalities of the time and their guests at hunting. The second monograph written by Colonel Spiess appears in 1933 and is entitled „Die Wildkammern des Retezatmassif” (The Chamois of the Retezat Massif). Also in 1933, the work that will become a classic hunting novel „Im Zauber den Karpathen” (In the Carpathians charm) sees the light of day. Most of the books contain hunting stories whose actions take place in the Transylvanian Carpathians and have had many reprints in publishing houses in Germany and Romania. The only book published by Spiess in Romanian was “From Transylvania to Kilimanjaro. Hunters in Africa”, published in 1942, as a sign of respect for the Royal House of Romania, which supported him during the expeditions. All these works include hunting stories full of specific charm, describing the natural setting of the past of the old royal hunting domain of Romania. The temporary exhibition will include heritage objects that belonged to A. von Spiess, „protagonists” from his hunting stories told with such mastery and passion by Spiess.
